Dozens of us met today for prayer outside the new queer bar in town (with another group meeting indoors at the church). All the men prayed and we sung a couple of hymns. The event lasted about 45 minutes.

We had several people join us who haven't been on previous events with us, which was very encouraging.

So far, every time the local queers make a public push, we have been able to send them fleeing. We are praying that this bar will be unable to be useful in recruiting teens into their perversion. Of course we would like to see them go out of business altogether.

Visitors to LaCrosse, Wisconsin often think of the city as a pleasant riverfront spot, but first impressions can be deceptive. Even a quick peek below the surface reveals that LaCrosse is a bastion of humanism and wickedness.

The University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse is an obscure fourth-tier school. Despite its complete lack of prestige and off the beaten path location, UW-LaCrosse has a long-standing reputation for being militant advocates for sodomites and lesbians. The school has even sent recruiters to conferences for young homosexuals. To call the city "tolerant" to sexual perversion and its promoters is a supreme understatement.

Put it all together, and it's no surprise that Wisconsin Marriage Defenders members had to deal with one of the most reprobate and antagonistic crowds we have ever encountered on August 27 during WMD's evangelistic outreach at LaCrosse's annual "pride" festival.

While our message is clearly the opposite of what the pro-homo crowd advocates, that hasn't prevented people on the other side of the issue from engaging in many peaceful conversations with us. Such discussions are a welcome opportunity to let homosexuals know that Christians have no hatred towards them, and that we desire to see them born again spiritually so they may have an eternal home in heaven.

That didn't happen in LaCrosse. In an almost unanimous consensus, spiritually and emotionally hardened attendees - many of them very young - refused to accept Bible tracts or engage in conversation. The number of androgynous people was quite high even by the usual standards of such an event. One patriotic man and Army veteran was angered when he heard that a U.S. flag with sodomite rainbow stripes replacing the traditional red and white stripes was flown at the entrance.

WMD hasn't engaged in street preaching until our most recent trip to LaCrosse, and two men handled the Scriptures with skill and genuine compassion for the crowd. Brian Cooper has plenty of experience with this kind of evangelism, and anyone who listened even briefly to Brother Cooper was left with a very clear message on the way of salvation. Kelly Harris followed up with a sermon aimed to reach those who find themselves trapped in a situation they wish they could escape. A young sodomite was shouting that he could marry someone of the same sex in Wisconsin. Ken Walker got shoved in the chest when he tried to inform the angry person that such an act was illegal in the state.

The saddest part of the day was watching several parents (I use that term loosely) escorting teens who were clearly on the fence when it came to determining their sexual orientation into the "Pride" fest. Words are insufficient to describe just how spineless and brain dead a person can be when they encourage their own offspring to enter a depraved world of perversion, disease and early death.

Although this is our last outreach for 2011, WMD will continue to stand for the truth of the Bible and heterosexuality in Wisconsin and elsewhere.

WMD CONTINUES TO STAND AGAINST SODOMY

One thing became apparent shortly after WMD members and other Bible-believing protestors arrived at yesterday's Pride Alive rally at Joannes Park in Green Bay. It was obvious that the attendance and most especially the energy or "buzz" of past perversion fests is on a downward path.

Never letting the facts or journalistic ethics stand in the way, the Green Bay Post-Gazette (more accurately referred to as the Pravda-Gazette) declared the same attendance figure of 3000 that they have used in the past. Since 800 to 1000 would have been a much more realistic number in 2009 and 2010, this year's crowd was probably in the 650 to 900 range. If the crowd was even marginally close to what the Pravda-Gazette claimed, then how were we able to find three consecutive street parking spaces just a few hundred feet from Pride Alive?

Sodomites, lesbians and their straight supporters got to see hefty transvestite Anita Buffet in the MC role. Since homosexuality promoters can never quit talking about how "normal" they supposedly are, why would they choose an elephantine crossdresser to play such a crucial role in their big event of the year? Perhaps they doth protest too much in proclaiming their imaginary normalcy.

Most of what took place was fairly typical for WMD. We handed out Bible tracts, held signs and had a lot of conversations with people who were at every point of the spectrum on the issue of homosexuality. One of the main complaints directed at those who publicly oppose pro-sodomy groups is how we allegedly "pick on" homosexuals to the exclusion of others who are unsaved and without Christ.

Nothing could be further from the truth. We picket homo rallies because this is the one group of sinners who publicly flaunts what they do, habitually recruits confused young people to join in their perversion and glorifies their rebellion against a holy and righteous God. When was the last time you saw a "pride" rally for car thieves, gossips or shoplifters?

The Lord gave WMD a glorious opportunity to share the Gospel with two young men who would appear to be righteous by the world's standards, but are probably every bit as lost as the most promiscuous sodomite. A very devout young Catholic (complete with a large crucifix featuring Christ on the cross) passed by the park. After some spiritual conversation, this polite and clean-cut young man promised to return with a friend.

The pair came back a short time later. The second 20-something Catholic also sported a large crucifix and was wearing a T-shirt with the word "eucharist", the Catholic term for communion. The Vatican teaches that the bread and juice or wine is the actual body and blood of Christ, and these young men firmly believed that doctrine as well as many other Catholic teachings and traditions that have no basis in Scripture.

Speaking of the Bible, these men carried Catholic Bibles and clearly had some familiarity with different passages and verses. Sadly, they often backed up a verse with tradition or a papal declaration rather than sticking entirely with God's Word. In more than a few instances, it was tradition or Catholic doctrine that superseded the Bible.

These Catholics defended their church with great fervor and diligence, but they were also polite and gentlemanly. Their sincerity is beyond question - but being sincerely wrong can have disastrous consequences.

Many people would say "How can such nice young men go to hell?" Romans 3-10-11 declares "There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God." Romans 3:23 tells us "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." The young Catholics we met wouldn't have a major problem with those verses, but they would bristle at Ephesians 2:8-9 ("For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.")

Devout Catholics will even say they believe in grace - God's unmerited favor and mercy on
undeserving sinners - but "grace" always ends up being twisted and turned into works such as spending long stretches in an imaginary purgatory, doing good works, penances (which can involve anything from praying the rosary to physical suffering) and praying to Mary and dead "saints". In some instances such as buying masses for the dead, this warped view of "grace" can also be very profitable for the Vatican.

The lesson from this year's Pride Alive? Not all unbelievers are vile and profane on the outside. Some of the nicest people you meet may also be in desperate need of salvation.

Do the protests of the Wisconsin Marriage Defenders make a difference? The answer is a resounding and emphatic YES!

EXHIBIT A:

A few years ago, Oshkosh was a homo hotbed in Wisconsin. Pastor Ralph Ovadal, who has been doing this for over 20 years, told us that, aside from Madison, he received more hateful and threatening calls and letters from Oshkosh than any other city in Wisconsin, including Green Bay, Appleton, Racine, Kenosha, etc. Many of the State's prominent homosexuals and lesbians were based in Oshkosh.

But we started appearing at their rallies and having our own rallies, and since the year we started there has not been a single open homosexual event in Oshkosh. Their publicity has been confined to the pages of the lavender lapdog Oshkosh Northwestern, which now has so little circulation and influence as to be irrelevant.

We have effectively run them out of town. Green Bay could do the same if they weren't bigger sissies than the sodomites. It's not that difficult. All it takes is a few godly men to stand.

EXHIBIT B:

There were only a handful of us for the last protest in Green Bay. Our church was having its Vacation Bible School, and several dozen of our best men were involved in that and could not come to Green Bay with us. Of course we have already noted the total lack of support from Green Bay Baptist churches (they will be raking in some awards shortly).

In fact, I suggested to Al that because our representation would be so sparse, we might be better off to stay home this time. Al decried, "No way. We have to make a representation even if we are the only ones. You already took a day off work and we're already here. We've got to go now." So off we went.

As it turned out, despite our low turnout, the news media gave us equal, if not better, coverage in their website and on TV. Had we not gone, the news coverage would've been 100% pro-homosexual. Instead we got 50% of the coverage, and their 50% came with the baggage of knowing they were being opposed.

EXHIBIT C:

Oshkosh and Lacrosse are very similar in both being UW college towns of similar size. Both colleges are typically liberal and pro-homo. We are also saddled with the most pro-homo newspaper I've ever seen that was not declared to be a homosexual publication (like the "Blade").

When the One-man/One-woman marriage bill was being debated and voted on, we, of course, spent most of our time in Oshkosh. Oshkosh voted to pass the bill by a 60%-40% margin, while Lacrosse voted against the bill, instead supporting queer marriage. Our actions helped make a 20 point difference.

Nine members of Wisconsin Marriage Defenders made the trek to Lacrosse, WI to protest their "Pridefest". Lacrosse is one of the few areas in Wisconsin that voted in favor of queer marriage, as evidenced by the city's official recognition of the event (http://www.cityoflacrosse.org/index.aspx?nid=1319).

We've done several "protests" in our Oshkosh/Fox Valley/Green Bay area. The queers here are familiar with us and are more willing to have rational conversation. We caught this gang in Lacrosse off guard. They did little but rant and wail.

We did have some conversations with a few individuals, but not many wanted to talk. They just accused us of hate. As one of my posters said, if we truly hated them, we'd let them die and go to hell. We're there because we don't want that destruction for them.

First they tried screeching at us, probably thinking that would intimidate us into leaving. (Yawn) Hardly. Then they made up some of their own signs, hoping to run us off that way. Nope. Then they called the cops on us, but when the cop came, he couldn't do anything to us even if he wanted to, because they had their posters out as well (and they were blocking a fire hydrant). The cop left and the queers went back inside.

Within the first few minutes of our arrival one tough-looking woman came from behind me squawking loudly, "Why are you guys spreading hate and harassing people?!"

I responded, "I'm just standing here holding a sign. I haven't harrassed anyone. I haven't even said a word to anyone. You're the one who just confronted me, and you're the one yelling."

80% of what we got from them was accusations of being hateful and intolerant. But they were the most intolerant queer group we've encountered. One alleged atheist (from Minnesota) told a WMD member that everything would be rosy with the world if all the Christians would be eliminated. Talk about hate and intolerance!

Several of them made comments such as, "Don't you guys have anything better to do than stand out here with those signs?" A half hour later they were standing among us holding their own signs.

Some may wonder why we are hitting Green Bay area Baptist churches, especially Bay City Baptist, so hard.

Because this was a rally in THEIR town. We have been trying for as much as five years to get them to get involved in any slight effort to help stem the sodomite advance. When I can take a day off work and drive over an hour to spend eight hours protesting the sodomites in their city, it's not too much to ask them to drive ten minutes across town and spend an hour helping.

It doesn't take that much. A couple of hours carrying picket signs was sufficient to drive them out of Oshkosh. They might not mind some confrontation, but they will avoid exposure at all costs, and our signs reminded people of what the homosexual lifestyle actually entails.

Instead of joining us to battle the enemy, they are now making me their enemy, and casting their verbal venom toward me. Would to God they would show the same indignation against the sodomites that they are showing towards me. They don't want to appear as an enemy of the homosexuals, but they have no problem appearing as an enemy toward me. Something is dreadfully wrong with their aim and their priorities.

When one of the sons of BCBC is seduced by a sodomite, it will be hard for me to muster up as much concern since we tried to help and were rejected. They will be getting what they asked for, after being warned they would get it, and offered help to prevent it. Of course I'm assuming the men of BCBC would be upset if one of their boys was sodomized.

Hopefully, other area churches will want to avoid the stigma of being known as homo-friendly because of this and will decide to stand on our side of the line next time. If not, we haven't lost anything, we've been going it alone all this while anyway.

The reason they would not so much as announce our rally was because they:

There you have it - from their own mouths. Gay City Baptist is purposely homo-tolerant. Green Bay area homosexuals will face no opposition from that church. It's fine if they choose to be gay-friendly. They have that right. But they should not get their panties in a bundle when that fact is pointed out.

As for us, we do not want to be friends of those who oppose God (except to turn them to God). We want them to become our friends by receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour and working to stay out of that ungodly lifestyle.

I have tried several times to register to comment on the Green Bay Press Gazette article about the Pride Alive event that was protested by the Wisconsin Marriage Defenders. Every time I tried it shut down my browser. So I will comment here:

DIVORCE: No one is claiming that divorce is a good thing. What is the point of appealing to divorce of normally married people? Divorce certainly does oppose the sanctity of marriage. Some Christians have been divorced. They don't promote it as a good and healthy. They don't have "divorce pride" rallies and picnics.

LEGALITY: So sodomy is legal, does that make it right? Slavery was legal, did that make it right? It was legal in some places to persecute Jews unto death, did the legality make it right? BTW, sodomite marriage is ILLEGAL in Wisconsin, and most States.

ANIMALS: There may be some examples of animals exhibiting homosexual behavior. So? Some animals also eat their young. Others reproduce by rape - some reproduce exclusively by rape. Should we really emulate animals?

2,500: I was there from 11:15 til about 5:00. The people in the park numbered in the hundreds, not thousands. Many of them stayed much of the day and apparently were counted over and over to get the 2,500 figure. Additionally, not all in the park were there for the Pride Alive event. One example of that was given in a previous blog entry.

LOVE: A person can love anyone they want, of either gender. Love is not the same thing as committing unhealthy sexual acts with them. I love my brother, my father, and my step-sons. I don't want to participate in feculant behavior with them.

HATE: We are often accused of hate, but the truth is, we love homosexuals enough to tell them the truth about their destructive death-style. It will send them to the grave and to hell. If we didn't love them, we wouldn't care if they died young and went to hell. They hate us for trying to warn them of the dire consequences of their actions.

PUBLIC: The main reason we protested the event was because it was public. If homosexuals didn't try to foist their perversion publicly, they would never hear from us. If kept private, they are protected by the Constitutional guarantee to be secure in their possessions and property. It only becomes an issue when they try to cram their death-style down our throats by making it a public issue or seeking public money and benefits.

JESUS: never said a word about homosexuality? Wrong. The sign I carried quoted Jesus speaking about couples being MALE and FEMALE and marriage being between a MAN and his WIFE. Additionally, Deuteronomy, Romans, and other places that rebuke homosexuality are still the word of God, even if they are not quoting Jesus.

About 20 Wisconsin Marriage Defenders met at Joannes Park in Green Bay, WI, to protest/witness at the 2nd annual sodomite "Pride Alive" family (sic) picnic event.

We recruited heavily from Green Bay area churches, but still 75% of the crowd was from Oshkosh. We now consider the Green Bay area Baptist churches to be queer-tolerant, after five fruitless years of trying to get them to lend a hand. They will be called out by NAME (church and pastor) on the WMB blog. If they don't like it, they need to take action to prove us wrong. The first church highlighted on the blog is Bay City Baptist Church, henceforth known as GAY City Baptist Church (http://wismd.blogspot.com/2009/07/gay-city-baptist-church.html).

Soon after arriving, I heard one of the Pride Alive leaders giving an interview to the Green Bay Press Gazette. He must have been asked who we were because he answered, "Those guys are from Oshkosh, some Baptist church".

While we were glad that they recognized us and associate opposition to sodomy with our group, we were disgusted at the same time that they did not associate anti-sodomy with any group or church from Green Bay, Milwaukee, or elsewhere. We should not have to be rowing this boat alone - especially in other cities.

Another leader of the sodomite event came out to thank us for being there (would to God we were getting thanked by Christians, but apparently most Christians are more effeminate than the queers). He said, "I don't agree with your views, but I support your right to voice them. When you guys come out, we know we've made the big time."

While it's quite an honor to know that the sodomites now use us as a measuring stick and status symbol, it is pathetic that other Wisconsin fundamental Baptist churches are so apathetic, to the point that sodomites connect standing against sodomy all over the state with us alone. We do thank Grace Baptist Church of Appleton, WI and Pastor Randy Graham for having some people stand with us at a couple of our events, including this one, but we will not have to spend a lot of money on thank you cards for anyone else.

We did get to have plenty of conversations and opportunities to give the gospel. We received the expected catcalls, middle fingers, and insults. The news media got some footage of us and our signs. Dick Ives gave a TREMENDOUS interview for the WFRV news. They might only air a clip from it, but Bro. Ives did a SUPERB job of giving the gospel and truth about sodomy with grace and love. Then he witnessed to the reporter at length.

A Spanish speaking man from the Honduras brought his three boys into the park, unaware that the queers were having their picnic. He came out, white as a ghost, with his boys a few minutes later, and although speaking Spanish, we KNEW what he was saying to them about what they had just witnessed. Al Doyle knows enough Spanish to converse and spoke to the man. Once he found out we were in opposition to the queers, he wanted us to explain it to his kids (who spoke English).

Gary Warinner gets kudos for being a bold witness to several people throughout the day. Several, if not all of us, got chances to speak to them on behalf of righteousness and the Lord.

We left before evening, figuring that later we'd encounter more drunks and loudmouths. The action might have gotten hotter, but less fruitful (in the biblical usage of the term).

If you are looking for a homosexual-tolerant church in Green Bay, this may be the church for you. Despite the prodding of several people from WMD, the Pastor of this church refused to send anyone to the WMD protest/witness at the annual "Pride Alive" picnic at Johannes Park in Green Bay (on Saturday, July 11th). The Pastor instead promoted recruting for a church picnic that day. The picnic was so important that they couldn't send ladies and teens to invite people for that, and spare a couple men to come to Joannes Park. Then again, it seems they don't have any men at that church, from the Pastor on down.

This church and this pastor are no threat to the gay community in Green Bay, and WMD recommends that homosexuals looking for a gay-tolerant church give this place a visit. Perhaps next year both groups can have a combined picnic and enjoy sweet fellowship free from being judged for their effeminate behavior.

In fact, the other Baptist churches in Green Bay were just about as gay-tolerant, so any homosexual need not feel intimidated or threatened if he/she wants to check out any Baptist church in Green Bay. Before long the area could be renamed Lavender Bay, Pink Bay, or Rainbow Bay.

GREEN BAY � The 2010-2012 state budget signed last week by Gov. Jim Doyle includes a provision that allows same-sex partners to form a legal domestic partnership. The measure takes effect Aug. 1 and includes 43 of the more than 200 rights and benefits extended to married couples, including family and medical leave to care for a seriously ill partner, and the power to visit and make-end-of-life decisions for partners who allow it.

Same-sex domestic partners must live in the same residence for at least 30 days to qualify for the classification.

Applications will be available at most county clerk offices throughout the state beginning Aug. 3, the first business day in which the provision will be in effect.

TG: The "Don't ask don't tell" policy doesn't prevent ANYONE from serving. Still, allowing queers to serve does weaken our national security. Straight men are not going to be any more comfortable bunking and showering with homos than women would be showering and bunking with men. In fact, that would be worse. He said the administration is working with the Pentagon and Congress to end the policy. He also insisted that doing so will require an act of Congress, though many believe the president could halt discharges of openly gay servicemembers through an executive order. ... Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) senior counsel Jeremy Tedesco explains that Julea Ward encountered resistance from Eastern Michigan University when she refused to affirm a counseling client's homosexual behavior. "What we have here is a Christian who is a student in a master's counseling degree program who was dismissed, kicked out of the school, simply because she was unwilling to violate her own religious beliefs in not advocating for homosexual behavior within the context of the counseling relationship," he points out.

When Ward's supervising professor suggested she refer the client to another counselor who did not take issue with homosexual behavior, she followed the advice. However, the school said she could stay in the counseling program if she would undergo a "remediation" program to reconstruct her belief system and help her "see the error of her ways." Ward refused. Tedesco believes the school is guilty of religious and viewpoint discrimination.

"Any orthodox Christian ought to look out if they try to apply for admission to the counseling program at Eastern Michigan University because they're not going to get a degree there," Tedesco contends.

Here we see Romania seeking to become the fourth European nation to legalize incest. About 20 States in the U.S. decriminalize incest to some degree.

Down below we saw that bestiality is not illegal in several places.

If homosexuals are allowed to have their activities considered "marriage", why could not these other groups use the same logic for their proclivities?

The claim is that two homosexuals are "consenting adults". Well, so are a father and an adult daughter, or an adult brother and sister. Why couldn't they get "married" if homosexuals can?

What about homosexual incest? They couldn't even reproduce, so there is no risk of danger to offspring - which is the reason for incest being illegal in the first place. Would incest between two brothers or two sisters be okay? Why not?

The homosexual marriage movement leads us directly to these things, no matter how badly the queers want to claim there is no connection. Several articles have already been posted here proving those other groups are purposely following the prancing footsteps of the light-loafers.

The homosexuals can try to deny the other perverts (incest, bestiality, polygamists, pedophiles, etc.), but their denials are hollow. There is absolutely a connection between the perversion of sodomy and those other perversions. If queer marriage is permitted, there is no reason to deny many of those other perversions.

Ultimately what matters is what God said was right and wrong about such things.

A bid to save a rare species of duck from extinction in the UK seem doomed after the last two males fell for each other.

Keepers at a West Sussex bird sanctuary hoped Cherry, Britain's last remaining female Blue Duck, might mate with either of the drakes, Ben or Jerry.But neither male duck appeared interested and are now inseparable at the Arundel Wetland Centre, reports the Daily Telegraph.

Centre warden Paul Stevens said: "They stay together all the time, parading up and down their enclosure and whistling to each other as a male might do with a female he wants to mate with."

People who visit the centre think they're a fantastic couple, without really coming around to the idea that they are two males."

Blue ducks originate from New Zealand but there were thought to be just three birds in the UK.

Keepers initially introduced Ben to Cherry, but neither seemed keen. They then brought Jerry down from a sanctuary in London.

Mr Stevens said: "Cherry showed some interest in him. She displayed typical mating behaviour - she approached him and called to him, she even looked like she was nesting. We thought it was great and it was all going to happen but nothing ever did."

Mr Stevens said the male ducks were then placed in the same enclosure: "To our surprise the two males really took to each other and it was obvious that they really liked each other."

It would have been nice to get a last clutch of eggs from Cherry but Ben and Jerry do make a lovely couple."

Critics argue that Colorado cannot afford to pay $116,000 annually for the added benefits when the Legislature may be facing a $1 billion deficit next year.

Nonetheless, the Senate passed the bill on a voice vote and gave it final approval the following day by a margin of 22-12.

"I was disappointed to learn of the Utah State Senates censure on February 20, 2009. However, this action will not discourage me from defending marriage from an increasingly vocal and radical segment of the homosexual community.

In recent years, registering opposition to the homosexual agenda has become almost impossible. Political correctness has replaced open and energetic debate. Those who dare to disagree with the homosexual agenda are labeled "haters" and "bigots," and are censured by their peers.

The media contributes to the problem. Increasingly, individuals with conservative beliefs are targeted by a left leaning media that uses their position of public trust as a bully pulpit. This pattern of intimidation suppresses free speech.

Four States had sodomite right bills on the ballot this election. California, Florida, and Arizona had amendments to ban homosexual marriage (which is an oxymoron like "female bull"). Arkansas had a bill to prevent unmarried couples (including homosexuals) from adopting.

These were much more important votes than determining whether the white globalist socialist or the Arab-black globalist socialist would get to live in the White House.

For those particular States to rule against the sodomites is a devastating blow to them.

California, home of homo-haven San Francisco, becomes the first state to reverse "legalized" homo-marriage (technically ruled so by a court decision, not a law per se). The other States passed one-man/one-woman marriage amendments to ward off future challenges to marriage by the homosexuals.

Florida required a 60% super-majority to pass, and they got 62%. Florida includes Dade County (home of Janet Reno), which is the most homosexual county in America, per capita.

Arizona had been the only state where the voters (as opposed to simply a judge like in CA) had actually voted in favor of a queer-marriage bill when pro-homo marriage advocates played the fear card with senior citizens a few years ago.

Arkansas, of course, is the home of Bill and Hillary Clinton. If the lavendar lobby were to pick the four places they would have the best chance to succeed, it would probably be these four states.

Lynette Doyle, 53, of Oshkosh, died at home May 30 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 15, 1955 in Hinsdale, Ill. and is the daughter of the late Sears and Ruth (Rieger) Taylor.

As a born-again Christian, Lynette went to her heavenly home upon her earthly death. She received eternal salvation by accepting the sacrificial death of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as remission for her sins. Judge’s ruling affirms single purpose of the amendment

MADISON Earlier today, Dane County Circuit Judge Richard G. Niess ruled that Wisconsin’s Marriage Amendment is constitutional. Judge Niess said the amendment clearly dealt with a single purpose: defining and protecting marriage.

Wisconsin Family Council, represented by Alliance Defense Fund, submitted a friend of the court brief in this case, which the judge referred to several times during the arguments.

At issue was whether or not the amendment violated the Wisconsin Constitution by dealing with more than one subject. The case was initiated by William McConkey, a UW-Oshkosh professor, who alleged that the amendment violated the equal protection clause of the US Constitution. Judge Niess dismissed that portion of the case last year ruling that McConkey did not have standing as a heterosexual married man. However, the judge said that McConkey did have standing to challenge the amendment based on the “single subject” clause of the Wisconsin Constitution.

“The marriage amendment demonstrated a comprehensive legislative scheme to define marriage as the union between one man and one woman and to prevent indirect abrogation of this special legal status,” said Amy Salberg, Allied Attorney with Alliance Defense Fund. “Judge Niess recognized this in ruling that the marriage amendment represented a single-subject in accordance with the Wisconsin Constitution.

”Thomas Balistreri, Assistant Attorney General, represented Attorney General J. B. Van Hollen. Attorney Balistreri correctly noted that the two provisions in the amendment were “flip sides of one coin,” both relating to the general purpose of preserving marriage.

In his ruling, Judge Niess noted that the single purpose of the amendment was “the preservation of the unique and historical status of marriage.”

“We couldn’t agree more,” said Julaine Appling, CEO of Wisconsin Family Council. “Marriage is unique among all other institutions and must be preserved in both number and gender, exactly as this amendment does.”

“Today’s ruling affirms the judgment of nearly 60% of Wisconsin voters who approved this amendment on November 7, 2006. These voters knew they were voting for one thing: the definition and preservation of marriage in our state,” noted Appling.
